My nickname/xbox live tag is ThrustBone (feel free to look me up) and i've been playing paintball for only a few months. I'm a rec-ball player plain and simple. I care not for the people who use terms like "noob" as I feel such players bring the overall experience of paintball down and make my outings less enjoyable. I look forward o meeting as many of you as possible. Now onto my question.
I've looked at some of the special jersey's and pants offered by DYE, currently i'm considering purchasing the c8 jersey/pant set. My question is, do such articles of clothing serve a purpose for my play style? ie: can I hang my gun/magazine holsters on the pants? or are they more specifically designed for speedball players? If you own a pair please give me any advice you have.
More for speedball... The reason players wear paintball pants and jersey's is for the extra protection (padding) and they have good ventilation on those hot, sunny days.
Most players buy belts, harnesses, holsters and other rigs to hold extra gear while on the playing field so the fact that Dye pants don't have any webbing or rigging for soft goods shouldn't stop you from buying 'em.
I wear a pair of Dye pants, use a RONIN capless harness, a regular stockclass harness around my chest and sometimes a leg holster for my secondary.
Mayhaps I'm not the most informed person regarding paintball clothing. As I won my pants after a scenario game and then was given a pair by Wes Wong after I stole one point from Carter's Commando's.
I have C8 Jersey and Pants. Basically I bought them for the padding on the knees, the crotch(oh so nice) and the venting. They are great pants but not 150 dollars worth of great. The jersey well, basically that is even less worth it as it's just a shirt that they throw some venting and sexiness on and charge you 50 bucks for. However that being said I's still recommend you get some form of paintball pants that are less expenisve. You can get the previous years style(C7) which is 99% the same thing for a lot lower price. But I'd really recommend the invert pants and jersey as they have all the things tourny style pants have that normal BDU's don't but still have the camo pattern for woodsball.

I think if they use the term Newb its for newbie, which is what you are when you start playing speedball, everyone has been it, its like being a beaner in grade 8 at highschool. i dont think its supposed to bring anyone or anything down.
there are some paintball pants that have belt loops the same as jeans would have, you just have to do some checking and find the ones that do.
I own the exact set of dye wear that you're speaking of, and yes, it definately makes a difference while playing, the pants especially. They're not so much tactical, but they are padded well, they absorb most of the "pop!" coming from close shots, as well as being padded enough for running and sliding behind cover ect. I wear both the pants and jersey, and I'm not a speedballer to say the least, over the jersy I wear a tactical 4 by 4 vest, and to give you an example, I played this past sunday, it was too warm for the jersey, and I took a hell of a lot of nastier hits without the jersey on than I had the weekend before. I've been playing since the late 80's and still consider myself a noob, so welcome aboard! Hope the info helped.
first off, welcome thrust. paintball is a great rec activity/sport, and we're always looking for new players! Dont worry about the holier then thou attitude you'll find on many players... mostly, they just need to be reminded that they were once new too...
in answer to your question, I think your money would be much better spent then on a pretty outfit to wear during play.. if you dont own your own eq, your first purchase should be a goggle set. Not only are your goggles the most important piece of safety equipment you'll ever buy for paintball, they also make the biggest difference of a single piece of eq. A good set of goggles can give you a fantastic view of the field, and increase your odds of staying in the game/making outs.
Assuming you already have your own gear, clothing is the next step. As far as Im concerned, one jersey is pretty much equal to another. find something comfortable with colours you like, and thats what you should buy. As far as the pants go, unless Im playing in an actual match, I NEVER wear actual paintball pants. I find a pair of shorts and knee pads, or warmup pants and knee pads are more then enough for me. but thats a personal preference, so you just have to make your own.
